NEWTON, Kan.- What has actually become somewhat of a shared milestone, Pratt Community College's cross country program became the school's first team to compete within its respective sport, as protocols moved the majority of NJCAA-sanctioned competition to the spring. As well, today's Muthama-Rogers Invite, hosted by Bethel College, marks the first official race under the belt of new head coach Joel Pearson.
The biggest highlight of the day for the Beavers came by way of freshman Zach McPhee, who placed third in the men's portion of the race. McPhee finished with a time of 20:25.85, averaging just over 5 minutes per mile over the course of the four-mile race. Along with McPhee, sophomore Diondray Harris compiled a time of 24:07.53, while freshmen Loubsky Francois and Delmar Campbell posted times of 28:33.5 and 30:34.85, respectively.
As the women ran in a more traditional 5K (3.11 miles), sophomore Kalen Aguero paced the Beavers as she crossed the finish line at the 24:16.41 mark. Behind her was sophomore Maya-Angela Miller, as she posted a time of 26:33.71. Sophie Fabre and Jodi Demidio did not finish.
Pratt's cross country group next competes at the Red Devil Invite in Iola, Kansas on October 3. The race is scheduled for a 9 AM start.
