Pratt Community College's Men's tennis program opened their spring season with a trip to visit the United States Military Academy at West Point to play against Division 1 Competition.
The Team played the Army Academy in their first match. The match ended in disappointment with a 2-5 loss. The Beavers came out strong, winning the doubles point before losing 5 of 6 singles matches. Freshman Sam Dinneen starred for Pratt in the dual with a singles and doubles win. Sam and his partner, Kenneth Rabinad Vila won their match at #1 doubles 7-6(5). Sam won at #3 singles: 6-1, 6-4.
The second match of the trip was played against Sacred Heart. Despite a slow start, losing the doubles point, the team fared much better in this match. They won 4-1. Tiaan Clark Nelson was the highlight of this match. Tiaan won his doubles match with his partner, Matthew Harris, by a score of 7-6(7). He followed up the doubles win with a second win at #4 singles:6-2, 6-1.
The third match of the weekend pitted the Beavers against the Bonnies of St. Bonaventure. Pratt won this match by a score of 4-1. Thio Tshivhase was our standout performer. He, and his partner Edward Westfall, won their doubles match 6-2. Following the doubles dominance, Thio won his following match at #6 singles: 6-1, 6-2.
Overall, this was a great start to the season for the Men. Pratt is 2-1 overall this spring season with all 3 of their matches coming against NCAA Division 1 competition. The team will continue it's season on February 12 in Omaha, NE as they travel to take on Creighton University.
