Sean Flynn recently completed his third full season as head men's basketball coach in 2020-21 after previously serving as assistant coach and interim head coach. Flynn holds a 44 and 40 record during his three seasons as head coach.
During the shortened 2021 season, the Beavers won five of their last six games, including wins over Hutchinson, Barton and Dodge, rallying to a 4th place finish in the Jayhawk West. Over the last two seasons the Beavers have finished 3rd and 4th in the Jayhawk West and subsequently earned home KJCCC playoff games each year.
The 2019-20 season saw the Beavers win 19 games, including 13 conference wins, the second most conference wins in recorded PCC history. A third place finish in the West Division of the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference marks just the fourth time the Beavers have finished in the Top 3 of the Jayhawk West in more than 25 seasons. The Beavers also led the 15-team Jayhawk Conference in overall rebound margin, swept rival Barton County, as well as other nationally ranked foes, Hutchinson and Coffeyville.
A stellar regular season led to the Beavers clinching a host berth in the opening round of the Region VI Tournament. Under Flynn's guidance, Pratt produced three All-Conference players, including Jamel Horton (First Team), Zool Kueth (Second Team), and Deontae Davis (Second Team).
In his first full season as head coach in 2018-19, Flynn's Beavers won three more games than the year the before and advanced to the Region VI quarterfinals in Wichita. All Five Beaver sophomores earned scholarships at the NCAA Division II or Division I level.
Flynn has also spearheaded several community and fundraising activities, including the Kansas All-Star Game, Kansas All-Star Coaches Clinic and the Pratt County Jamboree. In the community, the Beavers host 12 weeks of basketball clinics throughout the school year, mentor 5th graders, and created a ball-boy program with local middle schoolers.
Before coming to PCC, Flynn spent time coaching in the KJCCC as an assistant coach at Cloud County Community College under Chad Eshbaugh. With Flynn on staff, the Thunderbirds achieved their highest national ranking in over two decades, with CCCC moving as high as 12th in a January 2015 poll. Three players on the 2014-15 Cloud County roster moved on to the Division I ranks (Texas Tech, Charlotte and Indiana State), while three additional players Flynn helped recruit at CCCC also signed with Division I programs.
During his time in the KJCCC, Flynn has coached or recruited 11 players to All-KJCCC honors, including Aamahne Santos (First Team, Cloud County), Deon Lyle (First Team, Cloud County), Devon Andrews (First Team, 2016-17 Freshman of the Year, Pratt), Jaylon Wilson (Honorable Mention, Pratt), Teddy Fifer (Honorable Mention, Pratt), Blake Furcron (Honorable Mention, Pratt), and Tyvon Taylor (Honorable Mention, Pratt), Jamel Horton (First Team, Pratt), Zool Kueth (Second Team, Pratt) and Deontae Davis (Second Team, Pratt).
Flynn also worked as an assistant coach at Trinity College. While at Trinity, the Bantams earned their second-consecutive New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Title and NCAA Division III Tournament berth. Flynn also oversaw the development of NESCAC Player of the Year and NABC All-American Shay Ajayi in 2015-16.
The Boston native also gained valuable experience working as a graduate assistant at Marshall University for three years. The 2011-2012 campaign saw the Thundering Herd finish with a 21-14 record, including appearance Conference USA Conference Championship game and NIT appearance. Marshall’s NIT appearance was its best postseason achievement in 25 years. Before working at Marshall, Flynn coached at University of Massachusetts at Boston and Jeremiah E. Burke High School in Dorchester, Mass. He also coached AAU basketball with the Boston Amateur Basketball Club (BABC) and the Fidelity House Kings. Flynn coached with the Fidelity House 17U team which featured Patrick Connaughton of the NBA’s Milwaukee Bucks.
Flynn has coached under five members of the New England Basketball Hall of Fame; Max Good (Pratt CC), Jamie Cosgrove (Trinity College), Leo Papile (BABC), Charlie Titus (University of Massachusetts at Boston) and John “Boo” Rice (Jeremiah E Burke HS). He graduated from Suffolk University in 2008 with a bachelor's degree in communication and journalism. He earned a master’s degree in Adult and Technical Education at Marshall in 2013 and completed coursework for an educational leadership program at Marshall in 2014.
