PRATT, Kan. – Trailing by 12 at the half, the Pratt Community College Men's Basketball team responded out of the locker room over the final 20 minutes. After getting back within a point, Dodge City Community College was able to weather the storm to hold on for the 69-61 road victory over the Beavers inside the Beaver Dome.
It was a strong start for PCC (3-10, 0-8) scoring the first four points of the game with Muna Godswill and Seydina Faye connecting on layups. The Beavers held the lead until the 16:26 mark when DCCC (9-4, 5-2) was in the middle of an 11-4 run to take the 11-8 lead.
Near the midway point of the opening half, Scottie Guillory hit two from the line to push the Beavers back in front at 17-16. The two points were part of a big night for Guillory as he led the Beavers off the bench in scoring with 16 points, connecting on 6-12 from the field.
With DCCC holding a five-point lead at 26-21 with 4:21 to play, the Conquistadors closed the half on a 11-4 spurt to take the 37-25 halftime lead.
Hunter Vaughn got things going to open the second half. He connected on the first of back-to-back three-pointers 34 seconds apart to help PCC start on a 6-2 run.
Still trailing by eight at 48-40 with 13:51 to play, the Beavers slowly started to chip away. Faye, Justin Robinson and Izeyah Harris converted three straight layups to cut the deficit to two at 48-46 with 11:15 to play. Guillory had the Beavers back to within a point at 50-49 when he hit one of two from the line near the midway point of the second half.
DCCC used a 7-2 run to push the lead back to six at 57-51 with 8:18 to play. Still down by seven with 2:37 to go, PCC made one last push to make things interesting down the stretch. A Faye free throw and layup by Robinson trimmed the deficit to four with 41 seconds left. The Conquistadors, though, connected at the line down the stretch with Derrick Rivers hitting four straight from the line and after a missed free throw was the result of a Beaver possession between Rivers' foul shots, DCCC was holding the 69-61 advantage with just 26 seconds to play.
That would be how the game would finish, as despite a couple of looks in the paint and a three-point attempt, the Beavers weren't able to make a late run with DCCC claiming the 69-61 hard-fought road victory.
DCCC went 27-54 (50) from the field, 5-13 (38.5) from three and 10-15 (66.7) at the foul line. PCC countered going 25-68 (36.8) from the field, 4-25 (16) from three and 7-18 (38.9) at the charity stripe. The Beavers held a solid 14-2 edge on second-chance points.
In addition to the big game off the bench by Guillory, Faye led the Beaver starters with 11 points on 5-12 shooting, along with five rebounds. Robinson added nine points, six rebounds and five assists. Both Vaughn and Harris tallied eight points apiece.
Ricky Loftin II paced the Conquistadors with 19 points on 7-11 shooting, while adding six rebounds and three assists. Wesly Rosa led the way off the bench with 12 points and five rebounds, while adding two blocks. Rivers gave DCCC three in double figures with 11 points.
PCC will now be off for the holiday break, returning to action on January 3, 2026, at Cloud County Community College beginning at 4 p.m.
