MBB takes 6th Conference loss to Barton- Cameron Cox
[Great Bend, KS-Dec 6th, 2025] - Men's Basketball was on the road against Barton for an early season conference game. The Beavers were searching for their first conference win losing the last two conference games by a total of just three points. The Beavers would play an ultra competitive game on Saturday night but would lose 76-68.
Game Recap:
Pratt (3-8) (0-6) started off the first half with an early lead jumping out to a 12-3 lead after Galvin Luketa nailed two threes early. Justin Robinson also contributed to the early Beaver lead, cashing in a three of his own. Barton (9-3, 4-2) would answer by going on a 7-0 run quickly making it a two point game. The Beavers were able to control the game and the clock for the following three minutes with the score being 18-12. Barton answered, finding their own rhythm on offense and quickly it became a 18-17 game with 8 minutes left in the half. Seydina Faye slammed home a dunk to make the score 20-17. Barton answered with a 5-0 run to take their first lead of the game. Barton took the lead with 6 minutes left in the first and controlled the rest of the half. Both teams were deadlocked the majority of the final six minutes until Galvin Luketa hit a three right before half to make the score 34-32 in favor of Barton going into the break.
The Beavers shot 10-33 (33%) from the field in the first half. Exactly half those came from beyond the arc with the beavers shooting 5-15 (33%) from three. Barton shot similar splits going 12-31 (38.7%) from the field and 6-15 (40%) from deep. Galvin Luketa led the Beavers in scoring at the break with 9 points on 3-5 shooting.
The second half began by both teams taking punches at each other with neither team separating. After 3 and a half minutes had gone by the Beavers trailed by 4 points 40-36. Luketa hit a three assisted by Hunter Vaughn that would get the Beavers within one point of the Cougars. Barton responded by getting their lead back up to 5 on the following possessions. Justin Robinson hit a mid-ranged jumper to get the score back within three. Kisean Robinson followed that up by nailing two shots from the charity stripe, and put the beavers within one. Unfortunately this would be the last bucket for the beavers over the next two minutes going cold from the field. Barton took advantage of poor Beaver shooting and was able to give themselves a 10 point lead with 10 minutes left.
The following five minutes looked extremely similar with both teams going on small runs and neither separating. With 5 minutes left to play the Cougars still held a 10 point 66-56 lead over the Beavers. Pratt was not ready to give up with Kele Kane hitting a couple of shots the Beavers suddenly trailed by just four with four left to play. The game would stay at a four point deficit until the 2:30 mark after the Cougars went on a 4-0 run to make their lead 8 points. The Barton lead would stay at 8 points for the remainder of the game as Pratt would fall in their 7th straight game. The final score from Barton would be 76-68 in favor of the Cougars.
